MGP Increased Participation and Engagement of Boys

Research shows that achieving high levels of boy participation and engagement in middle school, especially in a strongly academic program, can be difficult if not impossible. But MGP partnership teams are pulling together resources to create programs that are increasing the interest and participation of boys. This includes two out of ten MGP sites that are all boys and take place on the campuses of the single-sex independent schools Boys’ Latin and Gilman.

As a result of these efforts over four years, MGP programs have more than doubled the number of boys enrolled in our programs so that in 2009 48% - nearly half – of our students in the summer and school year program are boys.
